Join us this fall for a series of online training webinars focusing on ways to use POWER Library resources to complement public library digital services, assist K-12 remote instruction with the OER Hub, and find out what is new with PA Photos and Documents digital collections.
Each session will be one hour in length and attending the live session qualifies attendees for continuing education and Act 48 credits. The same session will be repeated on different days.

On October 27, 28, and 29, the below sessions will be offered each day:
  • Building Digital Services with POWER Library
  • Virtual Access to Historical and Cultural Collections with PA Photos and Documents
  • Using POWER Library and OER for Pandemic Instruction and Beyond

POWER Library CARES!
Did you know CARES Act funds can be used to cover your POWER Library Annual Technology Support Fee?
The PA Department of Education CARES ACT Information Page includes the following question under the FAQs:

"How can school districts and charter schools use these funds?" 

Indicated uses for the funds includes the following:
  • Plan for and coordinate operations during long-term closures, including how to provide meals, technology for online learning, guidance for carrying out IDEA requirements, and providing educational services consistent with applicable requirements.
  • Purchase educational technology (including hardware, software and connectivity) for students.
POWER Library technology support is consistent with either or both.

Support Fee Remains Steady for 2021-2022

We know some of you are already preparing your budget for next year and we have good news. The annual technology support fee will not increase for 2021-2022.  
The support fee is used to provide enhanced support, training, and programming for participating libraries and underwrites costs to administer the grant, capital expenses for new hardware, and other unbudgeted expenses in support of the Access Pennsylvania/POWER Library program. It proves extremely helpful in covering expenses during years when grant funding is delayed due to a budget impasse. Information about the support fee is available on our website at http://www.hslc.org/fee/.

If you have any questions about the annual fee, concerns about your institution's ability to pay the fee, or any other billing questions, please contact us at support@hslc.org. Schools that serve economically distressed communities should contact HSLC Executive Director, Maryam Phillips (phillips@hslc.org) to discuss reduced fee options.
