The Top Five Tricks To Make Sure Your ILL Experience Using SHAREit is FANTASTIC!
5. Make sure your library’s Lending Policy is up to date.

Your lending policy dictates whether borrower requests for items at your library will even enter your request queue. If your policy isn’t up to date, items could be automatically rejected for requests or renewals even if the request is one you actually would honor. The Lending Policy is part of your Participant Record.

Need a refresher on how to check it?
See: https://powerlibrary.org/librarians/statewide-catalog/documentation/shareit-tips/lending-policy-check-time

4. Make sure your notification emails are going to the right person.

Your notification emails go to the email as set in your Participant Record. If you need the notifications to go to more than one person, that’s okay! Just make sure to use a semi-colon between the addresses to distinguish them.

Need a refresher on setting your notification recipient(s)?
See: https://powerlibrary.org/librarians/statewide-catalog/documentation/shareit-tips/setting-email-notifications/

3. Make sure your contact information is up to date, including your “ship to” address.

The library’s director and/or ILL contact are both outlined in the Participant Record (are you beginning to see a pattern here? 😊)

All of the contact information for all contacts involved should be updated as necessary. And mailing address information, too, should be checked for accuracy.

This document has a great overview of all the important pieces of the Participant Record and how to change them: https://www.powerlibrary.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Participant-Record-20160526.pdf

BONUS TIP: If any of your contacts change, be sure to let HSLC know. The information we share goes to the contact information we have on file, which isn’t always updated. We rely on you to share that with us – no one from the Office of Commonwealth Libraries or any other organization informs us about any turnover in directorship.

2. Make sure your holdings in SHAREit are up to date.

If your institution participants in the Union Catalog (you actually upload your records to SHAREit), make sure you are uploading AT LEAST once per year. Twice is better. If you are unsure as to the last time you uploaded, reach out to us and we will double-check for you.

Need a refresher as to how to upload?
See: https://powerlibrary.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/File-Transfer-Instructions-20170811.pdf

If you use SHAREit via Z39.50 rather than as a Union Catalog participant, you can see the latest version of the Z39.50 settings here: https://powerlibrary.org/librarians/statewide-catalog/z39-50-searching-info/

The Z39.50 password changes every August. The date will be announced 10-14 days prior in the Access Pennsylvania Newsletter and via email to our Access PA contacts list (remember that thing about updating us when your contact information changes?).

And the #1 tip for making the most of your SHAREit experience? Make sure you have our contact information!

Our contact email is support@hslc.org. Add it to your address book. Write it on a post-it note and stick it on the corner of your monitor. Tattoo it on your inner arm (just kidding!)

Emails to support@hslc.org will automatically generate a Help Desk ticket and it will be assigned to the appropriate person to assist you. You can also use our form, found at https://powerlibrary.org/librarians/librarian-support/. Or if you prefer the old-fashioned way, give us a holler at 215-222-1532.
