Learn About Transparent Language With This POWER Academy Tutorial

Whether you’re a true language learning beginner, dusting off your old high school Spanish, or eager to tackle your tenth language —Transparent Language will help you get started and stick with it.  With over 120+ languages with practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing lessons this database will prove useful for all library environments.

With this tutorial, you will:

  1. Gain a basic understanding of how to navigate and use Transparent Language.
  2. Hear tips for using Transparent Language in the library environment.

POWER Library/Access PA Annual Technology Support Fee Notice

The technology support fee will remain the same for 2024-25.

Invoices will be distributed in April of 2024.

What are the cost-savings of participating in POWER Library?
Statewide contracts for POWER Library resources are paid by the Pennsylvania Department of Education/Office of Commonwealth Libraries.  In turn, your school or library benefits by not having to purchase these databases from local funds.

  • It would cost a school $56,515 to subscribe to all of the e-resources in POWER Library on their own. 
  • It would cost a public library $73,366 to subscribe to all of the e-resources in POWER Library on their own.

In addition to cost-savings, participants are provided with enhanced support, training, and custom programming for access to the e-resources.

Chat with a Librarian Available 24/7 During the Holiday Season

While many libraries are closed or have reduced hours during the holiday season, Chat with a Librarian will be open 24/7!

Link to Chat with a Librarian and make sure the communities you serve are aware that even though the library may be closed, they can still receive live help from a librarian via Chat with a Librarian.

POWER Library is hosting a live information session focusing on some important POWER Library statistical information.  

Who should sign up? 

This is a great opportunity for public libraries needing statistical data for upcoming state annual reports, as well as any new participants or those looking for a refresher on the topic are welcome to join.  

During the POWER Hour, we will cover:

  • The updated For Librarians Hub
  • POWER Library e-resources statistical data
  • Access Pennsylvania and SHAREit statistical data 
  • Open Q&A on all your POWER Library questions

Happy Holidays and HSLC Office Closure Notice

HSLC will be closed for business on Friday, Dec. 22, Monday, Dec. 25, Friday, Dec. 29, and Monday, Jan. 1 in observance of the Christmas and New Year's holidays.

HSLC staff will monitor support for any notification of service outages. All other support needs will be responded to upon our return to work.
