PA Photos & Documents
New Digital Collection!
Butterflies, moths, caterpillars, and more!
The Album of Alexander Marshal Insect Watercolors is now available in PA Photos and Documents by the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. This bound manuscript volume contains fifty-seven pages of 129 watercolor illustrations of butterflies, moths, caterpillars and chrysalids, beetles, flies, locusts, grasshoppers, and crickets; five drawings of insects with plants; and one drawing of a guinea pig. The illustrations, created by Alexander Marshal and others are drawn on scraps of
paper or vellum that may have been cut from a sketch book or manuscript and later assembled into an album. In some cases, the illustrations were drawn on the blank side of a letterpress text including seven drawings on pages of Cotes's translation of T. Mouffet's Theater of Insects (London: Printed by E. Cotes, 1658). Descriptions and natural history observations are written on the front and back of many of the illustrations by at least four different people. Some of these annotations were applied after the illustrations were mounted and the volume assembled, possibly in the nineteenth century.

If yes, your district needs to migrate!
If your district’s schools have not yet migrated to the new SSO apps, this must be completed by October 15, 2025. The updated apps allow school SSO platforms to link directly to POWER Kids, POWER Teens, and List All E-Resources.

The current SSO, which functions as a single app requiring users to choose between POWER Kids, POWER Teens, or List All E-Resources, will be retired on October 15, 2025. To ensure uninterrupted access, please complete your migration before this date. If migration has not yet been completed, your librarian or technology staff should contact HSLC support.
